An efficient citizens’ approach towards
the environmental and social problems in the regions of three Bulgarian
towns: Lovech, Svishtov and Smolyan. The project aims to contribute
to the change in the value system and behaviour of citizens towards
the environment (in particular, water) in the context of: a/ an active
operating NGO sector; b/ effective partnership with local authorities
and businesses, and c/ sustainable development. The following activities
have been organized within a 16-month programme:
- training of local citizens and NGOs,
- development and dissemination of appropriate written and video
materials at local and national level aiming to raise public awareness
of: problems and ways of environment protection; water as a natural
phenomenon which should be valued and used economically; water as commodity
which needs funding to be managed well; national and international
legislation on the problems of water protection and the environment;
- organization of specific local actions (field activities) for protection
and recovery of nature;
- creation of effective forms of interaction at local level and exchange
of experience between the three regions;
- publicizing the challenges and the results achieved at local and
national level through the media.
