BN organizes and performs different campaigns on national and regional levels in an active partnership with national, foreign and international civil organizations, local authorities, state institutions and media.
The association often plays the role of an "idea incubator" addressing later the ideas and projects for performing by other NGOs and civil groups to whom BN provides support and advice throughout the project progress. In several cases BN submits information and recommendations to the donor organizations as well.

Independent assessment of the environmental assistance provided to Bulgaria for 1990/92

The Association collected and analysed information about the financial assistance for the environment, provided to Bulgaria through various government institutions. The results of the study were presented at a public discussion with representatives of more than 60 NGOs, government institutions and journalists. Several publications in national newspapers and interviews on the national radio. Demand for additional information, made by the Parliamentary Environmental Commission to the national institutions. The results of the assessment were reported at the Second Ministerial Conference “Environment for Europe”, Lucerne, April 1993.

An efficient citizens’ approach towards the environmental and social problems in the regions of three Bulgarian towns: Lovech, Svishtov and Smolyan. The project aims to contribute to the change in the value system and behaviour of citizens towards the environment (in particular, water) in the context of: a/ an active operating NGO sector; b/ effective partnership with local authorities and businesses, and c/ sustainable development. The following activities have been organized within a 16-month programme:

  • training of local citizens and NGOs,
  • development and dissemination of appropriate written and video materials at local and national level aiming to raise public awareness of: problems and ways of environment protection; water as a natural phenomenon which should be valued and used economically; water as commodity which needs funding to be managed well; national and international legislation on the problems of water protection and the environment;
  • organization of specific local actions (field activities) for protection and recovery of nature;
  • creation of effective forms of interaction at local level and exchange of experience between the three regions;
  • publicizing the challenges and the results achieved at local and national level through the media.
